I don’t play golf, but if I did, should I be able to join the Augusta National Golf Club?
The debate about the ban on women playing at Augusta comes up whenever the Masters is played there.
It seems to really be heating up this year because IBM’s CEO is a woman, Ginni Rometty. And IBM is sponsoring the Masters.
So Rometty breaks the glass ceiling, but can’t join Augusta National, even though other male IBM officers are guaranteed membership?
Through his Press Secretary, President Obama says he thinks women should be allowed to join. Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney agrees, saying if he were a member, he’d want the ban gone.
Do you agree with author and activist Martha Burk, that it’s time for this ban to go by the wayside, that “telling Rometty to be a good girl and wait a little longer with IBM’s collusion would be a disaster“?
Tell me what you think!

no rules are rules
I personally feel that it is not a major issue that a hold club wants to reservoirs membership to men. What is truly long with a men having their golf club? Is it because of the prestige?
I am by no means any sort of sexist and I support women’s rights and equality. But is it a matter of women’s rights or just a matter of women wanting to break into something for the sake of breaking in. Sure it may be symbolic but it definitely isn’t necessary.
If the club rules said no African Americans, would we still be having this conversation? Why is it okay to discriminate by sex and not by race?
Yes, women should be allowed because it’s the 21st century. Rules can be changed or done away with.
I agree with Neil. I’m not really seeing the issue.
No, it’s a men’s club not women’s, start your own club that men can’t join. Btw, this page is NOT showing the required fields to fill in name and email, I almost gave up.
Neither gender nor sponsorship is at issue.
